    Hey its seems like your fixes might work for me, I downloaded Vistered Littel 1.6 and made some of those fixes in my blog but I’m still having a problem with comments and I’m wondering if you have fixed it, when you comment in a blog usind Vistered Little 1.6 your user ID isn’t saved and you’ll have to introduce all your information again the next time you want to comment, that can get very annoying. I hope you can help me.

    Hey Diego, I’ll chalk that up as a bug; Shouldn’t take too long to fix.

    Hey you did a great job, I’m using Vistered Little 1.6 with my fixes and your comment fix and now everythings is just perfect, I have 1.7.1 in my themes though, I’m planning on checking it and do some fixes to match my preferences but that will take time that i don’t have right now. Thanks! Just wanted to congratulate you for the great job, Congratulations Tom!

    Not surprised — just happy. I’d been working with 1.6a and the default-wider style, but it wouldn’t work and ChrisCJD hadn’t seen my comments on the scarylittlemonkey forum, so I was quite pleased to find this worked out of the box. I’ve changed your wallpapers to my own (btw, I like your new wallpapers very much, but they don’t fit my blog’s theme), Now, I’m going to see if I can put some of Nik’s javascript code from his “Scary Little 8″ theme into your 1.7.1 theme to get what I REALLY want it to do! If you look at Nik’s friend Jon’s blog (http://invictus.mirror13.com), you’ll see the theme has a pull down About tab. Essentially, I want to encapsulate the wallpaper changer/search box into that tab. I also want to use the expanding/collapsing menu bar (such as the blogroll) in the Vistered theme. Maybe I have time to do it, maybe I don’t — we’ll see!

    Again, GREAT WORK — just like I expected ;-)

    The hidden inputs in the search form are for some work I did integrating with google search. They shouldn’t be there (I’m turning it into a plugin) and I’m marking that as a bug.

    Hi Tom,

    Great work! One question: Do all the wallpaper images still all load at once when someone navigates to the site? I’d like to eventually have a long list of randomized thumbnails/wallpapers, but it’d be nice to have then load when someone clicks, to keep initial load times/bandwidth down. Thanks.

    Brilliant skin Tom! Thanks.
    Could you offer a suggestion as to what I should use to include any sort of image gallery or access to Flickr images, while we wait for the Gallery 2 update? Your recommendation is appreciated.

    and thanks again for the work. Amazing!

  17. Comment on March 26th, 2007. Reply

    Hi RTX,

    On first page load, all the thumbnails are loaded and the current wallpaper is loaded. The only time an unused wallpaper is loaded is if there is no thumbnail for it. When the user clicks on a thumbnail, the class of the ‘body’ element is changed, which triggers the loading of the appropriate wallpaper (if it hasn’t previously been loaded).

    I was wondering if you’d consider porting the skin to anything besides WordPress. Yes, Virginia, people do use other solutions. In my case, the only installation of WordPress my hosting company offers is a single user. Since a single user sort of defeats the purpose of a collaborative writing environment, I went with another package. The name of it is Serendipity and I’d love to see this theme for that package.

    TIA

    Thanks for the note about the wallpaper images. I downloaded the theme and have been digging into it - working and looking great, with just one issue. Using the Safari browser v2.0.4 on OS X 10.4.9, the background thumbnails don’t show - a small button labeled “S” shows in the position where each thumb should be. Firefox on mac works fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

  24. Comment on March 28th, 2007. Reply

    Love it, getting ready to make my own wallpaper for it… just one thing.
    My “Pages” box isn’t showing up right. There’s a little list button next to the H3 header of “Pages”, and then just floating text on the wallpaper. No pretty little CSS box around it. Come take a look and see what I mean. (URL posted in form)

    I’m using 2.1 with widgets. The Pages section shows up normally in other templates and being that it’s a widget, I haven’t messed with the code. Any ideas? (I’m familiar with PHP and not afraid to get my hands dirty, just don’t know where to look.)

  25. Comment on March 28th, 2007. Reply

    Hi Carrie,

    I’m not sure how, but your ‘pages’ widget is naked. It should be surrounded with a div of class ‘menu’ and it should also have div of class ‘menubefore’ and ‘menuafter’ before and after it respectively. I’ve just checked the code and I can’t see how this would happen just for that widget and only on your site. Can you please re-download vistered little, extract it to a different directory in the themes directory and change the version in the ’style.css’ file. Try then activating the clean version and let me know if the same problem still occurs.

    Hey, I was wondering where I could find a skin. I like the white skin you’re using here, and also, the floating header you have on this page would be neat to include in the updated theme. Let me know about the skin, or how I can change it myself

  27. Comment on March 29th, 2007. Reply

    Hi Chris G,

    The white skin and the fixed header are both part of vistered little 1.7. You just need to install and active the presentation toolkit plugin and then configure the theme and skin.

    Hi Tom,

    I’m encountering issues between FF2.0 and IE 7.0 and spacing for text wrapped around images. Things look great in IE and like crap in FF (no spacing).

    Also, I’m having a problem inserting images in pages and having them show up correctly (not in the footer line with the “comments” tag buried.

    I’m a newbie at this, and not real confident of my CSS skills, but am willing to learn.

    The updated vistered-little 1.71 is awesome and I am able to eliminate the wallpaper options, using only the one I want and get the “light skin”… used the Presentation Toolkit and Skinner plugins.

What’s interesting is that my links widget has a ul element with a class of ‘links’, and your links don’t even have that, let alone the stuff needed for the surrounding box. What version of WordPress are you using and have you installed any extra widgets?

  32. Comment on March 30th, 2007. Reply

    Hey Tom,

    Ok, I tried to upgrade to WP 2.1.0, but it broke my blog, so I went back to 2.0.3… I’m still having the same problem with pages and with links… (no box). I have a couple of widgets installed - Akismet, Mr. Linky, Yahoo smileys, Sidebar widgets, Previous Posts, Presentation Toolkit, Skinner, and database backup. I just upgraded to Vistered Little 1.7.2 and it’s still happening. I had it happen with VL1.0, but I was able to go into the sidebar.php file and fix it myself. I did the same thing again, but it didn’t work with the upgrade. I’m at a loss, and eveything I try makes it worse…

    I’m having a problem. Vistered Little 1.6 and 1.6a seem to work fine for me. I’ve tried to use 1.7.0, 1.7.1., and 1.7.2. but I seem to get the same problem. The boxes don’t show up around my posts or my sidebar. Whatever wall paper I choose also only appears around the header and when I scroll down to the bottom of my page. I haven’t changed anything after downloading it. I’m using Wordpress version 2.1.2. and Firefox 2.0.0.3.

    When I view it in IE I still don’t get the boxes around my posts and sidebar or the black background to give the posts some contrast but the wallpaper will show properly. Am I doing something wrong or downloaded a bad copy. I’ve gone back to 1.6a for the time being.

    Thanks.

    Lots of problems in 1.7.3, unfortunately.
    1) there are too much “absolute word”, i.e. words in english that still remain in english also if another language is set. (Other templates don’t have this bug and works good with all languages). These words are, for example, pages, categories…
    2)the block “Blogroll” is for ever showed also if blogroll is empty;
    3) the particular CSS structure overwrite all the font settings sets when the post is written. (FIX: move the FONT-FAMYLY declaratin from “.” section of CSS to the “body” section.
    4) The link to TRACKBACK don’t works in notmal mode (link with ?=”#pid” );
    5) BIG PROBLEM: did u try to see 1.7.3 under Explorer? :| PNG Transparency fix doesen’t works;
    6) [maybe] the string “…” is substituted by a spechal char showing 3 points, but in explorer in shows bad.

    For now is all but if I’ll find something else I’ll write imemdiately.
    For now I have to use 1.6.. :(

    Hi MTBVulture,

    I’m guessing you mean 1.7.2.
    1) Fair call.
    2) Are you using widgets? Do you mean the “links” section/widget. It’s working fine for me, so more details would be good.
    Edit: 2) After re-reading, I understand.
    3) I’m not sure exactly how you are setting the fonts when writing the posts (is it some css at the top, or styles of particular elements?). Please send the details so I test against it properly.
    4) I’ll investigate that, but I can’t remember fiddling with the track back URL.
    5) Yes I did and yes it does. IE 6 & 7 work. There is a bug in 1.7.2 however when the skinner plugin is not enabled.
    6) Where are you seeing the ‘…’?

    Thanks for the bug reports.

  40. Comment on April 1st, 2007. Reply

    1)the trackback works only if the block (widgets ON) is later the “recent post” block;

    2)the blocks works good only in widget mode. with plugin disabled there is a problem in showiing “Categories”(show a 3level UL insteadof 2level).
    The names of sections are in eglish and not in native language.
    There is an empty box that I think is blogroll showed also if is empty.
    Trackback still doesen’t work in no-widgets mode.

    3)font style is css style and not respect the font family set upped by writer using TinyMCE (in tinymceis possible to set alignment, font… and using this version of css these setps are overwritten).
    FIX:
    in STYLE.CSS replace:

    * {
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    font-family: “verdana”, sans-serif;
    }
    body {
    font-size: 16px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    background-position: top center;
    background-attachment: fixed;

    WITH:

    * {
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    }
    body {
    font-size: 16px;
    font-family: “verdana”, sans-serif;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    background-position: top center;
    background-attachment: fixed;

    REPLACE:
    #contentcontainer p {
    text-align: justify;
    padding: 5px;
    }

    WITH:
    #contentcontainer p {
    padding: 5px;
    font-size: 1.1em;
    }

    4)The “…” is a “problem” of wordpress and not of skin. I solved deleting the str replace via php.

    5)Anchor for comments missed.
    FIX: Line 47 of comments.php. Replace:
    Leave a comment
    with:
    Leave a comment

    5) to me this skin still doesen’t work in IE (the transparency) and the same is for your website. can u help me?

    Unfortunately I can’t do anything else because nyhosting is in manetaince mode and my website is offline… i’ll continue the test tomorrow.

    Hi PJ,

    Go and grab either Firebug for Firefox and the Microsoft Web Developer Toolbar fro IE. I find these tools invaluable for debugging theme changes. With that you’ll see that the each window has three divs (class=blogbefore, etc) and one div with the main content (class=blog). What you want to do is remove the extra divs so there is only one set of blogbefores, one blog div which contains the post and the comments and then the ones after with blogafter, etc.

When I installed it I got a lot of errors in my WP dashboard about directories not existing and then when I looked at my site with it installed my entries just showed up directly on the wallpaper with no borders or backgrounds on the entry boxes themselves. Am I missing something elementary in the install?

    Hello, I’m using Vistered Little 1.7.2 with a fress Wordpress 2.1.3 install. I have Presentation Toolkit 0.0.3 and Skinner 0.0.2 plugins working. Everything looks as it should with Firefox 1.5, but I have two problems with XP SP2’s base browser, IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2. Thus I’ll refer to style-ie.css.php.

    When I choose “flex” width, there are a lot of elements which aren’t shown: the background of the contentcontainer, the rounded edges of blogbefore and blogafter, and the header background. I don’t see any particular problem with that in the IE css (using default skin, of course). I am absolutely clueless about what could be happening, and it’s a shame because I would prefer the “flex” flavor. However, I think that the #header element is wrongly situated, it should be out of the if loop. If I put it outside (just after the thumnails), then the header is loaded with “flex”.

    Anyway, I couldn’t make “flex” work, so I changed to “wide” width, but then there’s a problem with the header background. I use one made by me, which is wider, and in fact it’s wider than the window. So “scale” for sizingMethod distorts the header. I have to use “crop”, which is a shame because you can’t align it to the center… However, even when I can live with that, I can’t click anything in the header which is “covered” by the background: site logo/name, search, or wallpaper thumbs. When using the normal header background with “scale”, it shows well, and everything is clickable. When I use the other header background (wider) then nothing is clickable, regardless of the resizing method. Again I’m clueless.

    Besides those two problems, the site takes AGES to load in this IE 6 version. I totally love Vistered Little, but if it doesn’t work with XP’s default browser, it’s pretty useless for me. Ideas?

    Hi Pi,

    In term of the flex mode for default, I’ll double check it and create a bug entry. It is supposed to work with IE 6.

    Regarding the header, it hasn’t been designed to work with a non-1px width header. If you provide more details of what you are trying to do (e.g. link to a mock-up image) I can list it as a feature request.

    Lastly, regarding the loading times in IE. I have to look into this and find out what’s going wrong.

    Thanks for the issue report

    Thanks Tom for your attention.

    What I’m trying to do is to have a centered logo behind the actual site logo, search box, and wallpaper thumbs. I substitute the header.png for a widened version, still the same semitransparent header frame, but 2000 pixels wide. Over it I place all the pics I want, in a section in the center, about 800 pixels wide. I leave the rest as the semitransparent original header. The effect is that the site logo stays floating at the left, over the logo background. The extra width makes the logo to be always centered, without needing to be repeated. Even if you make a really wide browser window, you always have the image centered, and with the frame. It works GREAT with Firefox, but IE 6.0 refuses to do anything correctly with it.

    If you don’t get what I say, take this page as an example. Imagine the site logo (imagotype) as only “Windy Road” (logotype), without the little drawing (isotype). Then you put the little drawing into a wide, non-repeated background. When you change the browser window width, the little drawing stays in the center, while the site logo stays at the left.

    Since it seems that it’s a no-no for IE 6.0, I don’t really have a feature request. I’ll do other changes to achieve a similar effect: I’ll merge the site logo with the background images, and then modify the skin so the site logo appears centered. I don’t know if that’s possible, I can PHP quite well, but I’m very clumsy with CSS.

    Vistered Little is no less than an awesome piece of design, I just wish IE wouldn’t be so messy ^_^

    Hi Pi,

    I can confirm the flex is really broken in IE 6. You should find the loading times in IE much better if you don’t use flex (or if you wait till it’s fixed).

    Regarding the logo background, what you are trying to do might be possible, but I wouldn’t have time to look at it any time soon. Also in order to center the logo, you should fiddle with the stuff in the ‘h1 a’ section. Instead of ‘float: left’ you probably want ‘text-align: center’, but you may need some other tweeks.

    I think the way the logos are shown is a bit cumbersome (for me). The logo can’t be centered, because it’s the background of an element shown as a block. You can center the text inside that block, but how do you center the block?

    The curious thing is that I can make the logo to be centered in IE6, but not in FireFox ^_^. Worse is, the logo is centered in the free space left by the floating elements, so the logo is not actually centered. So I’ll forget about my initial idea, maybe I’ll try again on the next VL update. That’s if you haven’t added an option to center the logo! ^_^

    The problem I have now is that I don’t want any space between the logo and the border of the page. Moreover, the space is different in IE and in Firefox, so I’ll have to live with it it seems… Either I hate CSS, or CSS hates me… The result is not bad, Vistered Little makes everything look great, but it’s not what I really had in mind.

    Thanks for your help anyway.

    You center a BLOCK level element by using the following two lines of css. First on the element itself you apply “margin: 0 auto;” (the zero is adjustable, it is the vertical margins, the horizontal margin of auto equals out the margin on both sides, filling all available space, thereby centering it). This doesnt work on ie6(maybe 7) so you set “text-align: center;” on the parent element.

    It is (very) bad practice to use a space in any document that is intended for display on the web. I can’t imagine that this is a bug in Vistered so much as a bug in IE6.

    Actually it’s a bug. The urls for the AlphaImageLoader filter aren’t quoted, though I agree spaces are bad form

    I agree that using spaces is not a good habit, although it’s allowed. However I accidentally left one in one of my logos; when VL selected that logo under IE6, it didn’t appear, that’s all. IMHO, VL should have shown it, that’s why I called it a little bug.

    I’m working in internationalizing VL (my site is bilingual), never did anything like this for WordPress. Maybe what I learn will be of help for you, if you decide to support internationalization in the next VL versions. It seems to be quite easy, although I’m still getting the hang of it.

    Hi Armando,

    you have to modify the file style.css.php in the line:

    h1 a:link, h1 a:active, h1 a:visited, h1 a:hover {
    color: #ddd;
    }

    changing the color attribute.

    Hi Charlie,
    I’m guessing there is a php error when trying to display the categories section in the sidebar. See if you have an error_log or similar in that directory on the server. Otherwise try enabling sidebar widgets and just put one widget (not categories) in there and see what happens.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks so much for all your work regarding this theme. It’s great!
    A couple of questions:
    How do I edit the footer to remove your text and replace it with mine? Obviously, I’m new at this.
    I want to remove the side navigation panel in a Page I created (a real page) that uses the Slickr Gallery. I just want the Page to have the gallery and no navigation bar.
    OK a third question: When I change anything within the sidebar widget (using Automattic plugin), I lose the cool category/sub-category offsetting that is there with the default widget. Maybe this isn’t a vistered thing, just wondered if you knew how to fix it.
    Thanks Again!

    Hi Craig, You can edit the footer at the bottom of index.php. Not sure how to remove the sidebar, but I think you should be able to do it by creating a template file (you can google for the details) and don’t have it call get_sidebar(). Re the category, that and option in the category widget. Just check the “Show Hierarchy” option (in the “Sidebar Widgets” page you’ll notice a box with a blue line at the top and three black line at the end of the categories widget. Click that box to bring up the options).

    Hi alex,
    There is no configuration option for specifying the order of the thumbnails, however their order is determined by the file system, usually via the date/time the file was modified. Try touching the wallpapers in various orders and see how you go.

    You can manually sort the thumbnails in the buildThumbnailArray() function within wallpaper_functions.php, just before the return statement. I know this isn’t ideal, but I can’t see any other option at this stage.

    Hi alex, you need to put the logo in a directory all by itself and specify the “logo path” as the path to that directory. The reason for this is VL will randomly pick one of the images in that directory and use it for the logo. This allows you to have multiple logos, with different tag lines like at Scott-O-Rama. If you only want a single logo, then you just need to put one logo in your logo directory.
    I’ll also add specifying a single logo in the feature request list.

    I have a much-edited VL 1.6 on my site. the main changes are the translation to Hebrew and support for widgets (feel free to visit, even if you can’t read the actual posts). I’ll definitely try to find time to switch over to this version with all the features I need. others on my wish list:

    1. incorporate threaded comments somehow without breaking the design.
    2. width of posts and comments controllable from the control-panel (yes, I know it’s not simple at all and limits the style of the text bubbles to either plain ones or resamples the top and bottom)
    3. wish there was a way to support right-to-left scribes built in, to be switched from the control panel.

    btw, what happened to the changing backgrounds and all? I love being able to display my own pictures there and let the readers choose…

    OK, I played with it a bit, I see there is already a nice width feature built in, and I’m using the skins plugin to add a Hebrew skin. I’m sure it will be a bit trickier than just that, because I need to translate strings inside the php rather than an external file.

    would you consider moving the strings out of the PHP code? if you intend to do this, It will save the re-editing with each new version, and the skin can support more western languages and possibly Hebrew and Arabic in the same source tree.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ira.

    OK, I should really have read through… I see some people have already ported VL to use PO files, but I don’t see it in the 1.7.3 zip… where is that patch available?

    Hi Ray, you can add custom widgets using the sidebar widgets plugin, though I don’t know where you’ll find widgets for local community information. Maybe you could try checking out the WordPress Forums.
    Regarding the skins, there are only three available for Vistered Little. Pick the one you like the best.

    I have been playing around with the Vistered Little theme for my website so I can use it. I first installed 1.6 and it worked fine. Then I tried 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 and it doesn’t look right on IE 6.0. Firefox works fine.

    In IE 6.0 there is no background to the banner or any of the post or anything. The only thing showing are imates and text on the background. I have played around with all the options to see if anything different happend and it didn’t. I tryed different skins and nothing. From what it shows above, there were fixes to bugs for banners in IE so I am not sure why it is happening.

    I then upgraded to Wordpress 2.2 and that did not help. I could keep using 1.6 and play around with that, but prefer to go with 1.7.3. Any thoughts?

    Hi Tom,
    This is an amazing bit of work that you’ve done, and your blog itself is chock full of wonderful goodies to drool over. I’m rather new to webdesign, but this theme captured one of the things that I was hoping to achieve, albeit outside of WordPress. If I may ask, how did you get the transparency to work? I love it, and with your permission and maybe a point in the right direction, would like to duplicate it. Thanks!

  179. Comment on May 24th, 2007. Reply

    Hi arv, I haven’t tested it with 2.2 yet, but the initial reports are that it does work with 2.2.

  180. Comment on May 24th, 2007. Reply

    Hi Dave, I’ll try to write an article about it. The short answer is use pngs as background images and for IE, use

    background-image:none;
    filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(enabled=true, src='/path/to/background.png', sizingMethod=scale);

    The only problem is that relative path’s don’t work for the IE filters.

  181. Comment on May 24th, 2007. Reply

    Dave, there is a combination of all sorts of CSS and JS cool stuff going on, but the transparent PNG is nothing to do with that, you just make transparent PNGs in Gimp (or Photoshop and others) and throw it in. the real trick is to get IE6 to display it right :-)

  182. Comment on May 24th, 2007. Reply

    Oh, Tom was faster (and more informative). I didn’t know this required absolute path, that explains why 1.7.3 won’t look right with the “theme switcher” widget….

    “IE 6 uses “expressions” in the css (have a look for headerfixed in style-ie.css.php) and these can put a bit of a load on the CPU. The strange thing I’ve found is that sometimes it’s really slow and chews up a lot of CPU and other times, there’s no noticeable slowness at all.”

    Hey Tom - I figured I’d post this in the correct comment section. I tried the site w/FireFox today and noticed the slowdown no longer exists. It seems you’re correct in that IE6 has some strange interaction.

    I do have a few different issues that I see you don’t suffer from, though. First, the first thumbnail choice I have defaults to a blank background. I cheated and made a white thumbnail and ensured that shows up first. It works — but it’s not the way it’s meant to work ;)

    Second, now that I’m using the site in FireFox 2.0.0.3, my backgrounds don’t show up at all. The background shows up fine on your site here. Any thoughts from anyone? Thanks in advance for the answers and for the great theme!

        The thing is I’ve done full i18n on my 1.7.3 copy and added a RTL skin (for Hebrew/Arabic/Farsi). the only thing not working for me there are the little stars for bullets which don’t render well on RTL and also the management screen’s language stays English for no apparent reason.

        should I send it to you now as a patch or should I keep porting for now?

                I got it mostly working, but too many of my readers complained both 1.7.5 and 1.7.3 are two heavy for some browsers to the point of getting them stuck. I have never seen it myself but I guess I can’t argue with my audience :-/

                so while I’m not going to keep working on it, I can still send you the (gnu) DIFF to 1.7.5 and you can merge whatever you can use. Will that do?

                1. Comment on June 27th, 2007. Reply

                  I agree VL isn’t a light theme. Also (though it doesn’t appear to be the problem in your case) VL is very vulnerable to slow loading widgets. IMO VL’s biggest defect at the moment is that the sidebar is rendered before the main content.

                  A diff would be great. Thanks for the work you have done.

      You can download the Visterd Little theme and inspect it’s code to find out how the effect is achieved. Have a look at the style.css.php and style-ie.css.php files in the the various skins directory. The basic idea is to use semi-transparent pngs as backgrounds and then use some trickery to get IE 6 to display them properly.

      Try adding the following css

      .post a img {
          border: solid red 5px;
      }

      to a custom css file (you would then place this in a customizations directory and tell the theme about you customizations directory via it’s options page) or add it to the end of Vistered Little’s style.css file

    Mainly Im not really sure where to edit the sidebar contents. For example remove the ‘page information’ bit, and change the order so t he first box has the PAGES, 2nd has Calender, Archive and then Tags or something

    NOW really the only thing left is to change the very background colour from white to black, and the Titles colour from blue to something else.
    I cant find the codes relating to these anywhere, maybe I have to add them?

    1. Comment on July 10th, 2007. Reply

      Have a look at the ‘Customising The CSS’ section in the VL Documentation Page. You can then add your own CSS to modify the background-color, the font color and anything else you want to change.

  203. Comment on July 10th, 2007. Reply

    Literally as you posted this I found that colour hidden in the css.php of the default folder :)
    Yeh I have been playing a bit with the CSS but will definately try to then make it a seperate skin folder to keep the original in tact.

    Did you just add that documentation page? I swear I tried it the other day and it had nothing in it.

    So if you add just partial script to the css in the skin, it keeps everything else as is? So i dont need to re-write the whole thing? Amazing.

    Commend you on your fast responses to people here too.

    1. Comment on July 10th, 2007. Reply

      I updated the page this morning :smile:

      Just to make sure the terminology is correct so others don’t misunderstand. You create a customisations folder (outside of the vistered little theme), in which you put your CSS changes. This gets applied to VL regardless of which skin you are using, works in addition to the CSS specified by the skin and will not be overwritten when you update VL. Cool eh?

      I had a look and one of the problem posts (black text on black background) and I’m sure this is a TinyMCE issue. When you are pasting into TinyMCE it pastes the style information along with it. I can only assume that it’s getting a little confused.

    As TOM said its easy to just create a custom folder and add the code you like etc - great option. But If you cant code from scratch like me, I simply copied and edited the default skin - not the cleanest hack but it works ;)

    Pretty happy with it now, just get some backgrounds happening!

    Feel free to check my site and feedback from anyone too :)

    There’s a typo within style.css of version 1.7.5 at .credits (that shouldn’t cause any ill effects): padding-bottm

    Hi,
    One more question! I replaced the header fine, but the default ones are 300px high, and I want it around 100px. But If I just change the image it repeats it. i Can’t workout how you got the smaller ones like on this site to work.
    What code do I need to add to my custom CSS that I can change the header image height without screwing up the transparency and fixed position?
    Cheers.

    PS: FYI my current header PNG goes to 0% at the bottom, and shows fine in IE, but in Firefox it holds at around 50%.

    It would be killer if you can get Vistered Little Theme to be compatible with the All in One SEO Plugin!!! :razz:

    Nope I was wrong, All in One SEO Plugin works, I just had a bug in my sidebar widgets, with a reload everything worked fine, and resolved a couple of annoying W3C errors.

    Afternoon Tom.

    Many thanks for the great skin. Using it with nextgen gallery for a photoblog type thing at the moment and it rocks.

    Only found your skin by accident through a friends pc - had links to several blogs and was reading some of them and found this skin - cpied the link down and downloaded it. Been using it ever since.

    Thanks again. :D

    Grrr. I can’t find where in the css you change the bg to white. :mad:

    Also, you should consider releasing the theme with white already chosen. I love the flow, and it’s why I chose it. :)

      The option pages are driven by the Presentation Toolkit plugin. Install it, activate it and you should see a “Default Skin” page in the “Presentation” admin section.

    i just updated my blog from version 1.6 to the current one and have one problem now:

    the tags aren’t working anymore. when i try to click on a tag i always get:

    “Fatal error: Call to undefined function: utw_showcurrenttagset() in /mnt/web4/51/69/51628669/htdocs/wp-content/themes/vistered-little/header.php on line 6″

    can you help me out?

      hi again ;)

      i’m not into that coding stuff, but i just deleted the “( function_exists( ‘is_tag’ ) && is_tag() ) {
      UTW_ShowCurrentTagSet(’tagsettextonly’);
      echo ‘ ‘ . __(’@', VL_DOMAIN) . ‘ ‘;
      bloginfo(’name’);
      }
      else if”

      from the header.php, i couldn’t find any of the tag stuff in the header from the old vista little and not it works again ;)

      did i destroy anything with deleting that, or is it ok?

      thank you!

        I found a solution to this particular problem, currently facing the 2.3 version, I went to

    This is a really great theme! Thanks for making it available to all. :)

    I am upgrading from 1.6 to 1.7 now. I wonder if the center column is going to be bigger in 1.7? Mine is very small, I hope to make it bigger as my visitors are complaining on the small center column and photos (after auto resized).

    I just notice that the header is not static and not scrolling as I scroll to the bottom page. I prefer the 1.6 version of header, so that visitors do not have to see the header all the time when scroll to the bottom. Can this be done in v1.7?

    Hi Tom et al,
    Again, great work and I love the integration with yatcp!
    I’m attempting to create a page that lists all pages dynamically in a hierarchical fashion using php code. I found the code to do it and it works, amazingly enough!

    I’m using a hacked version of page.php that I got from the WP install. However, the template I’m using doesn’t show the silver background (I’m using the shiny skin). Is there one of your pages in the theme (I didn’t see a page.php or anything like it) that I can use as a template to pull this off? I’m not even sure where the call to the theme is. Can you help?
    Thanks, Craig

    There’s a problem with backgrounds managment. If I empty all folders (bckgnd, thumbs, botomleft) and put my own inmages in the dirs that I want to use, but without thumbs, dowsen’t work.

    on the script:

    var vl_wallpaper_count = 8;
    var vl_wallpaper_current = random;
    var search_phrase = “Search…”;
    var search_label = “Type and press enter.”;

    can u help me?
    Later if i select a bkgnd or i click on the random thumb, all works fine.

    I am new at wordpress, but try to maintain my own one. I looked for different themes in order to find something to suit my preferences best - and stumbled across this theme (from a german link - I use the german version of wordpress).

    This theme is GREAT and GREAT and GREAT. It looks great and leaves in itself so many options for settings (I thought till now that changing themes would be my “only” option *gg*).

    Thank you very much for the work you have done here and for giving this to all of us wordpress-users.

    Whenever I get to a webpage that uses this wp theme, I have to stop reading, or disable stylesheets entirely. The frames-style title bar at the top, which doesn’t scroll along with the page contents, is aggravating on my eyes when I try to read; because I tend to read text near the top of the page, but the title bar distracts my focus.

    It also takes away a good chunk of real-estate from the actual page contents.

    I just thought I’d comment that; since many others might experience this frustration. I’d say it’s a usability flaw with this theme :/ I don’t mean to be a jerk, I just thought I’d raise this issue.

    1. Comment on July 24th, 2008. Reply

      You’re not being a jerk and it’s a fair enough call. There is an option for administrators to have the header positioned normally, but I guess it makes sense to have an end user option as well (no sure on the best way to display it though). If I ever get around to updating the theme, I’ll keep this in mind.
