Sotiris Karagiorgis has taken on a pivotal role as the Head of Risk at Axi, marking a significant shift in his career. This change coincides with Axi’s ambitious expansion in the cryptocurrency market, as the company has recently introduced over 150 new contracts across both well-known and emerging digital assets. This strategic move positions Axi among a select group of multi-asset firms that provide crypto derivatives on a single, regulated platform. With perpetual futures now making up nearly 70% of Bitcoin trading volume and 76% of the overall derivatives market, Axi is clearly aiming to capture a larger share of this lucrative sector.
Karagiorgis’s Background: A Journey Through Risk Management
Before stepping into his new role at Axi, Karagiorgis honed his skills at eToro in Limassol, Cyprus. In just under two years, he held the position of Enterprise Risk Manager for nine months. During this time, he was responsible for overseeing risk management for Smart Portfolios and the Popular Investors copy trading service. He also managed vendor risks and played a key role in regulatory engagements. Prior to that, he worked as a Financial and Operational Risk Manager, where he conducted risk assessments and developed crucial policies.
Expertise in Audit and Financial Reporting
Karagiorgis brings a wealth of experience from his time at Deloitte in Nicosia. As a Senior Manager, he led teams focused on preparing IFRS financial statements and became the firm’s technical specialist for CaseWare and ESEF reporting. His earlier experience at Crowe Cyprus further solidified his skills, as he spent over six years delivering audit and assurance services, specializing in both IFRS and local GAAP. This extensive background makes him well-equipped to tackle the complexities of risk in the fast-evolving crypto landscape.
Axi’s Ongoing Commitment to Sports Sponsorship
In addition to its focus on risk management, Axi is maintaining its global sports sponsorship initiatives. Notably, John Stones, defender for Manchester City and the England national team, serves as Axi’s Global Brand Ambassador. He will continue to feature in the company’s marketing campaigns. Furthermore, Axi has partnerships with several football clubs, including Manchester City, their women’s team, Brazil’s Esporte Clube Bahia, and Girona FC, a club in LaLiga. Through these partnerships, Axi aims to enhance its brand visibility and strengthen its market presence.
Strategic Positioning in the Crypto Market
As Axi expands its crypto offerings, it is strategically positioning itself to meet the growing demand for cryptocurrency derivatives. By introducing a wide range of contracts, the firm is not only catering to seasoned traders but also appealing to those new to the crypto space. The company’s efforts to remain compliant with regulations while offering diverse trading options demonstrate a strong commitment to both security and innovation.
In summary, as the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, Axi is making significant strides to enhance its offerings and ensure robust risk management. With Karagiorgis at the helm of risk, the firm is poised for growth in this dynamic sector.
